Do you have gum disease?

96% of the population suffer from gum disease (Pyrea) of some form and although the dental profession is aware of how to treat this disease we are currently having little impact on its prevalence.

Unfortunately gum disease does not cause any pain, it is an insidious disease which slowly eats away the bone around your teeth, this can occur over decades. The main signs of gum disease are:

  • Bleeding gums
  • Bad breath or bad tastes in your mouth.
  • Receding gums... no this is not down to age!
  • Loose teeth
  • Eventual loss of teeth

The disease is caused by plaque, which is easy to remove if you know how. If plaque is left for a period of time it can form a hard build up which is not possible for you to remove. Treatment involves tuition in, and monitoring of oral hygiene, and the removal of the hard deposits. This can take time, sometimes up to 2 years of treatment, but the end result will be that you keep your teeth for life, which means that you can eat and socialise with confidence.
